This Chinese Pipa is constructed from Painted Maple masterfully selected by the artisans from Dunhuang. Maple is a very common type of wood used to make musical instruments. This particular type of maple is native to Asia and is a hardwood with a strong, long lasting quality and durability. Often used to make stringed instruments like guitars, violins and autoharps, as a tonewood it carries sound waves well producing snappy, high sounds. Due to a low velocity of sound and a high degree of internal damping, it is brighter than that of mahogany's tonewood sounds. The strings are German steel wrapped nylon.
Instrument weight: 4 lbs. Dimensions: 24" long, 14.5" across the widest part and 2" depth.
